The Image of God (Genesis 1:27)

Group of women of all shapes, sizes and colors.

We were made in the image of God, anatomy and all.

"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Genesis 1:27

The Image of God

We often shame ourselves for the struggles we face in this life. “Why do I do that? What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I just be normal?”

Have you ever thought about how God created you perfectly in His image?

He didn’t mess up, satan did. We are perfect, created in the image of our perfect God. It’s satan who’s messing with us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

God’s Perfect Design

When God created you, He designed you to mirror Him, including withstanding the evil in this world.

Isn’t that a perfect design?

Our perfect God withstands the evil of the devil. Since we’re made in His image, we’re made to withstand the devil too. When God created this universe, He knew that satan would fall. He knew man would fall right along with him. God knew we’d need a way to survive.

So He designed us with perfect anatomy to withstand the evil of satan.

Our Perfect Anatomy

When we look at our anatomy, we see our Heavenly Father setting us up for protection.

We have brains that spot danger and warn us to fight or leave, in order to survive. These brains are connected to nervous systems that shift our physiology to do this. They change our bodies’ functions to give us the stamina to fight or flee the danger. Then, when they spot safety, they shift us back into the state of Rest & Digest. Now we’re back to peace and calm.

How miraculous is that?

Rest. Momentary panic to end the attack of the devil. Back to rest. Repeat.

God knew we’d need a leg up to survive this world, so He designed us to withstand it.

Why We Shame God’s Creation

When we’re struggling, we shame God’s creation. We shame ourselves for being in the struggle – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Shame is an emotion of the devil.

After we survive the attack of the devil, he hits us again, but this time with shame.

Satan hates that we win against his attacks through God’s design of our anatomies. So he hits us with shame, to make us feel bad about ourselves. If he can’t kill us, he’s going to make us miserable in the living.

But we don’t have to let him. We can let the light shine in to cast out all darkness.

By understanding how God designed us – our anatomy – we can glorify God for His perfect design.

You’re not crazy for having emotions, your human. Jesus wept after all.

You’re not crazy for being stressed, you’re surviving satan’s attacks. Jesus was stressed too.

You’re not crazy for having panic attacks, you’re being attacked by an adversary who’s trying to kill you. That panic is appropriate. Jesus was attacked by him too.

When we see the purpose behind God’s creation, we find meaning to our struggles. This allows us to glorify the One who’s saving us, every moment of every day. Even though our physical lives.
