Stress includes a whole spectrum from good stress all the way to our known bad stress

The Science of Stress

If you missed the intro to stress, you can check it out here.

In this post, we’re going to talk about the Good Stress states of No Stress and Low Stress that God designed us to live and thrive in.

Good Stress

There are 2 types of Good Stress that you experience in this life:

No Stress (Rest & Digest)

When your brain senses that you’re safe and don’t need to be active, you’re in the state of Rest and Digest. This is the state of No Stress (or Flow).

This is where your nervous system is balanced. You feel relaxed, calm, at peace and maybe even a little bit bored.

In this state you’re physically lounging, napping or sleeping deeply.

The outcome is that your body and mind rests, and your digestive tract properly digests all the food you’ve eaten that day to nourish you.

Low Stress (Movement & Exercise)

When your brain sense that you’re safe and need to be active, you’re in the state of Movement and Exercise. This is the state of Low Stress (or Eustress).

This is where your nervous system is balanced and energized. You feel motivated and excited.

In this state you’re physically getting up in the morning, moving, finishing deadlines and exercising. Physiologically you may be experiencing a quickened heart rate, faster breathing and flush in our cheeks.

The outcome is that your body and mind are motivated to be active and healthy.

Both of these kinds of stress keep you calm, relaxed and motivated to do the work God has called you to do in this life. These kinds of stress are exactly where He designed you to live.

We’ll cover the additional 2 states of stress (bad stress) in our next post here.

I’m praying for you
