What Is Stress Really – Intro (Part 1)

Let's talk about stress, God's creation, design

How many times do you feel stressed in a day?

What is Stress Really?

How many times a day do you feel stressed? From the alarm waking you up, to the coffee not brewing properly, that awful commute, your annoying boss or colleague, the stacks of paperwork on your desk, your kids screaming, your plans changing, the weather impeding and Lord help you if you turn on the news at any point during the day.

Stress is such a part of your life, you can’t even imagine being alive without it. You live it. You breath it. You’re perpetually stuck in it.

You know that Jesus calls you to live in His peace and rest in His yoke, but how do you even do that? How do you bridge the gap between the spiritual peace of Jesus and physical stress you experience as a human in this fallen earth?

➡  You learn how God designed you, and work within that design to counter the attacks of the enemy in your brain and body.

If you understand how God created you, you can begin to understand how you’re meant to live on this earth. From there you can figure out how satan is attacking you, and work around him to come back to the incredible, beautiful woman God designed you to be.

Where Do You Begin?

You start by learning the science behind God’s creation of your body and mind.

This is the science of mental health. It will give you a deeper understanding of where stress comes from, why it lingers and how to use mental health techniques (resources) to turn it off.

What Is Stress?

Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain that you experience from the challenges that come your way in life. It’s your brain and body’s way of reacting to these challenges.

It does this through the activation of your nervous systems.  Your nervous system is the communication system connecting your brain and body together. It’s responsible for things like movement, exercise, stress and trauma.

Contrary to popular belief, stress is not just a bad thing. It’s actually a whole spectrum of states that your nervous system goes throughout your life. These states range from good to bad.

COME AGAIN?

Hear my out on this one…

From a clinical perspective, stress includes the whole spectrum of bodily reactions from good to bad:

The stress spectrum includes 4 types of stress from good stress to bad stress

It starts with No Stress – where you’re calm, relaxed, and filled with peace (like Jesus designed you to be). It then moves through 4 stages of stress, all the way up to High Stress – where you’re panicked, anxious, triggered with trauma or PTSD (through the attacks of the devil).

The Good Stress you experience in life includes the No and Low Stress states.

The Bad Stress you experience includes the Moderate and High Stress states.

I’ll dive deep into these states in the coming posts. But for now, just know that God designed you perfect. He didn’t mess up in His creation. He designed you to handle the darkness that satan brings you in this fallen world. And He gave you resources like mental health to find peace in it.

I’m praying for you
